SECURE OUR BORDERS
The US borders are open and we have 12 - 20 millions illegal immigrants in our country. We have drugs and illegal immigrants coming into our country everyday. No one is going to tell me that thousands of terrorists are not entering our own country by way of these open borders. We need to immediately close our borders and protect our country.
I will not waste money building a token jester security fence across most of the border that serves no more purpose then to give a false since of security. I would first dig a deep trench along the border through the towns and cities and fill it in with concrete to locate and prevent tunneling. I would then build a tall double or triple fence through these cities and for a ways out into the country. This would be heavily patrolled. I would also build a fence along the property of people that requested it, but for most of the desert area it would be fence posts only with border warning signs on them. The area would be very highly patrolled with vehicle patrols about every half mile, with added air and ground support bases every few miles. This will allow our units to liaison with their Mexican and Canadian counterparts for a couple miles on each side of the border.
I will redeploy approximately 50,000 US troops and resources to secure our borders and ports. The troops will also assist in inspecting everything that is imported in the US. I've read that currently only 5-15% are inspected.
US Navy/Marines will protect the United States mainly outside the 12 mile border.
US Coast Guard and US Customs will jointly cover all water within the 12 mile border. Any ship crossing the 12 mile border and coming to the US will be under US Coast Guard or US Customs escort until inspected.
US Army, US Customs Border Patrol, and the Mexican or Canadian Border Patrols* will protect the US at the land borders. They will jointly patrol our borders. The US Army will mainly provide the manpower and firepower. The US Customs Border Patrol will mainly be the arresting agency. Those arrested for illegally entering our country will be turned over to the Mexican or Canadian Border Patrols for immediate deportation.
US Air Force, US Customs, and the Mexican and Canadian Air Forces* will jointly patrol the US border and provide air intercept and support as needed.
*The Mexican Border Patrol and Air Force members will be those hand picked by Mexico's President Felipe Calderon and not those normally known for corruption.
