Bills of Lading should be reasonable and the driver should sign for something that he or she can actually account for.
I've signed for ridiculous stuff like 33,459 pieces of bulk mail or 2340 ea of A-9-DUR234. These were also signed for after the load was loaded and sometimes sealed. The shipper should count and seal the load. The driver should only be responsible for insuring that the seal is intact.
Larger identifiable items like 22 pallets of bulk mail or 10 containers with A-9-DUR234 stamped on them would be reasonable.
